The next Cycle-N-Suds will be March 7th at the Green River Brew Depot (26 Church St, Saluda, NC 28773)

The next Cycle-N-Suds will be held in Saluda at the Green River Brew Depot.  Saluda is a lovely town and a beautiful area to bike in.  Hopefully the weather will be agreeable and we can have several different options for our bike rides before we meet at the brewery.  As a reminder, this is a recruiting event and you are encouraged to bring a friend for the social to meet the membership and become a member. Also remember, as always, the first beverage (soft drink, beer, or wine) is on the club!  More details to follow regarding the time, rides, and places to park.  Hope to see everyone next month!

Asheville-Buncombe Senior Games 2020

Its that time again. Unlike the real Olympic Games or the Guinea Pig Olympics, which are every four years, the Asheville-Buncombe Senior Games (AKA Senior Olympics) are annual.   This year's A-BSG bicycle time-trials (which means no mass start and no riding in close proximity to other participants) are scheduled for Thursday evening May 7 on River Road near Marshall. The rain date will be May 14th.   Please put these TTs on your calendar. They are fun, with little pressure, and are a great opportunity to test your speed endurance in a friendly, competitive atmosphere.  Senior Games Cycling Flyer  For more info go here:  Asheville-Buncombe Senior Games 2020

Support Our Greenways and the Ecusta Trail

Greenway expansion gains momentum in Henderson County and cities.  Read the article in the Hendersonville Lightning by Bill Moss which mentions the Ecusta Trail, the NC-280 Multi-Use Path, and the Oklawaha Greenway and the possibility of a Regional Trail System.  We need your support!  Read the entire article  Read a great editorial that one of our Past Presidents wrote:

Strava Replaces Mileage Log

To use Strava you will need either the App on your Smartphone or a GPS based bike computer.  There are two options; a free account or a feature laden monthly subscription plan - Strava Summit.  A few of the many advantages of using Strava are: track all of your ride parameters, including heart rate and cadence, it keeps a map of your ride, you can follow friends, and rides can be automatically uploaded. Some inputs require extra sensors. But perhaps the greatest advantage is that Strava compiles ride statistics that allow transportation planners to use the data to plan bicycle infrastructure.

Our thanks to Lee Pirtle for his past help in developing and maintaining the mileage log.
