Asheville/Buncombe County Senior Games

The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club has a rich history of supporting the local bike racing scene. While the number of local bike races has dropped off in recent years, one event endures, the Asheville/Buncombe County Senior Games. Over the years several members of the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club have distinguished themselves by competing in this annual event.

Trevor Wallis, a long-time BRBC member is an example of a senior rider who challenged himself in the Senior Games Time Trial event capturing several medals for his podium finishes. Marshall Gordon, Tracey Drews, and others have done likewise, carrying the BRBC banner to victory at the North Carolina Senior Games.

For BRBC members 50 years and older, you have the opportunity to compete in the local time trial event and attempt to qualify for the NC state games. The local time trials take place on Wednesday, May 8, 4:00 – 7:00 pm, in Marshall, NC.

If interested, go to Asheville Buncombe County Senior Games via your favorite search engine. Registration is required and the deadline is April 1, 2024. There is a 1-mile, 5 K, and 10 K time trial as well as the same for recumbent bikes. There is a $10 registration fee, regardless of how many events you enter.

Colt Miller is the Asheville Buncombe County Senior Games coordinator. If you have questions, he can be contacted at 828-707-2376 or cmiller@ashevillenc.gov

PS: If you want to see the benefits of continuing to test yourself, join Trevor on one of his thrice-weekly 30-mile rides and see what it’s like to ride behind an 82-year-old time trial champion.
