What is this?
A gravel ride from N Mills River Road. Bring a gravel bike (38 mm tires+) or a mountain bike.
We will do 12 miles out Yellow Gap Rd and 12 miles back to the car. Or, you can shorten and turn around earlier. If you want to add on 10 more miles then, there is a 5 mile out-n-back on Bradley Road.
Plan to stay together as a group. Or, no more than two groups if there are some that want to go faster than my ability. These are gated Forest Service roads and there is no way to get a car in to recover you if they have a mechanical failure. Also, spotty phone signal at best. The ability to self-rescue if needed is an important skill. Sun goes down early and so does the temperature. At the very least, perhaps throw some chemical warmers and a flashlight in your backpack.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41445745 , 24 mi, 2,500’; 108’ per mile.

Directions - https://goo.gl/maps/25u4g7g4EZhjC3bt9. Basically, find the Ingles on 3338 Boylston Highway, Mills River. Turn right (from Asheville) at the stoplight onto N Mills River Rd and drive 5 ½ miles. There is paid parking for $5. Or, go another 1,000’ and park near the concrete bridge for free, aka “fisherman’s bridge”. If those 3 – 4 parking spots are full, then park along the side of the road. We’ll group up at the concrete bridge.
