If we‘re not getting rain, we might as well ride! It‘ll be a little cool and breezy.
Start at Etowah Park. Ride through the French Broad valley and Mills River, with out-and-back along the North and South Mills Rivers. 44 miles/2,500ft
15-16mph avg, Pace Level 3. Rest stop at Mills River Ingles, 21 miles.
NEW - Training ride from Jackson Park at a variety of paces on the Apple Pancake route.
Bill Moore (Fletcher) Community Park
I am posting this 17 mile ride, but I will be doing it twice. Saturday holds a bit of a chance for rain, so Sunday afternoon looks good. Starts at Bill Moore Park and the halfway will be at BMP too, so you can get water or use the restrooms. My goal is the Tour de Apple Metric in September, so I will work on 40 miles in May, 50 in June and 60 by August. But you can just join along on any ride as I prepare.
The Grove at Trailside Brewing
Join BikeWalkHVL for their Annual Update + Meet & Greet.
This is a chance to connect with others in Hendersonville, meet new faces, and hear what Bike Walk HVL has been working on. A quick update on recent progress, what’s ahead, and ways to get involved.
Trailside Brewing/Ecusta Cafe
Starts at Trailside Brewing, Hendersonville, NC. The route goes through apple orchards and climbs Lamb Mtn Road and Gilliam Mtn Road with a final climb up Oleta Road.
I will ride at my usual 15 mph avg pace Level 3. Faster and/or slower riders are welcome.
Restrooms and water available at Griffin‘s, mile 16, and the Justice Academy, mile 27.
NEW - Training rides from Etowah Park at a variety of paces and distances on the same out-and-back route into Pisgah Forest.
Meet Tuesdays at Blue Ridge Beer Garden, Hendersonville at 5:30pm for a social, community bike ride starting at 6:00pm.
For more serious (anti-social?) riders, a Hilly Loop is also available as an alternative route.
Alternate ride for those gathering at ETW on Thursday who want some extra climbing! This one climbs up Willow, then back down Evans. After that, rollers around Etowah. I plan to ride at a LEVEL 3 pace.
CANCEL RIDE: Chance of pop-up T-storms.
NEW - Training rides from Etowah Park at a variety of paces and distances on the same out-and-back route into Pisgah Forest.
Start at Dula Springs Plaza, go north of Weaverville on commonly used roads. Traverse the Paint Fork Wall at around mile 24. Join up with the Jack‘s Creek 50 loop and then return via a more direct path to Dula Springs.
NEW - Training ride from Jackson Park at a variety of paces on the Apple Pancake route.
Beech Glen Community Center
This ride traverses lightly travelled roads east of Mars Hill, starting from the Beech Glen Community Center.
The Bakery ride starting at Jackson Park is the first ride and we will add on for those who want more than 17 miles an out and back based on the Apple Pancake trying to reach over 35 miles without tons of extra climbing (taking the back half of the loop for apple pancake). Come join me for the loop and maybe even the extra leg.
Here is the link to my proposed extra route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/55002498
Dula Springs Plaza
N Main St & Dula Springs Rd
Take lightly traveled roads to Marshall, rest/food stop at On Your Bike, returning to Weaverville via the French Broad River to Lower Flat Creek Rd. Make sure you have the "Alt" version that avoids Rt 25 and please register even if you‘re a "maybe." We will regroup and I expect a pace at 12.0-12.5 on my 4th consecutive ride day, though others will be faster.
A nice easy recovery ride for Mother‘s Day.
Starting from Mills River Park at 124 Town Center Dr. Park in the back lot past the library/town hall. We‘ll ride mostly flat roads around Mills River and Etowah. This route is very easy to cut short with an out and back on Talley Rd and another on S Mills River Rd. We‘ll stop mid-ride at Etowah Park (21 miles).
I‘m planning to average 15-16 mph for this very flat route. Faster and slower riders are welcome.
SORRY I HAD TO CANCEL. FAMILY MEDICAL EMERGENCY. JUST ARRIVED IN PINEHURST TO HELP PARENTS.
LEVEL 3 RIDE TUESDAY 10AM. Meet at Woodfin Riverside Park. (Restrooms NOT available.) This is a LUMPY ride with few flat sections -- 3700‘ of climbing in 40 miles. Faster and slower riders are welcome. We‘ll plan to re-group as needed. Planned stop at Mile 18 gas station. Please have the route downloaded in case you get separated from the main group. REGISTRATION RECOMMENDED, BUT OPTIONAL.
A scenic Level 5 ride from Alexander River Park with plenty of hills. We‘ll travel downriver to the Little Pine bridge and then return via Bear Creek Road and the Fletcher Martin bridge. There are no facilities at ARP. We will regroup as appropriate.
Beech Glen Community Center
A casual ride for folks who want to enjoy the company of others. This
is a 26-mile, level 6 ride with elevation gain of about 1,635 feet (63 ft/mile) and a
maximum climbing grade of 6.8%. We will attempt to keep the average speed under 13
mph. The ride may, if necessary, be divided into two groups to accommodate the variety of
riders. This is a NO-DROP Ride, however, in case you find yourself inadvertently dropped
and in need of help, be sure you have the ride leader‘s contact info and call or text them for
support.
Trailside Brewing/Ecusta Cafe
Ride starts at Trailside Brewing, Hendersonville, NC. This ride goes out Kanuga Lake Rd, to Etowah and Mills River then returns via Hebron and Finley Cove Rd. Rest stop at Mills River Brewing, mile 24.
I will ride at my usual 15 mph avg Pace Level 3.
Rick Berlet will lead a group at a Pace Level 4-5.
Faster and/or slower riders are welcome.

Supporting the Arthritis Foundation a 4 Day supported ride from Asheville NC to Greenville SC.
The Carolina Classic 4 Day ride has a first day ride for locals
Pisgah Forest Ranger Station/Visitor Center
Starting at the Ranger Station this route climbs to the Blue Ridge Parkway and follows the Parkway to Richland Balsam (highest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway) and back. Length of the route can be truncated by turning around at any point prior to Richland Balsam.
The Blue Ridge Parkway requires cyclists to ride single file, have a front facing light (bright enough for tunnels), and a red flashing rear light.
I will climb slowly and hopefully descend into a double-digit average mph (10mph would be nice). Bring enough snacks and water for the entire ride. Graveyard Fields has restrooms - 20mi and 46mi. And would be a good turn around to make the ride 40 miles.
Please RSVP and indicate full ride or shorter version.
Contact me (dcbarr@live.com, 828-845-2201) if you have any questions.
Inviting the Tribe of Slow for this BRBC Classic. We will ride from one park to the other (bathrooms, water at both) and then back to Mills River Park. At 24 miles/1200 ft, it‘s not flat, but one of the flatter routes in the club library. Right now I only have 1 speed- slow! This is a real level 8 no-drop ride.
Please register even if you are a maybe.
