Frequently Asked Questions

What is the TdT?
Le Tour de Transylvania group rides are on the same days the Tour de France (TdF) rides. This year there are 171 different ride options and 63 ride leaders! If you are a current ride leader or want to become a ride leader please consider co-leading a TdT ride. (send Hank an email and he will send you a list of rides that need co-leaders).

What is the schedule? The dates and start times are on theBRBC Calendar. Typically the Level 1 ride will roll out at 9am and levels 2 through 8 will roll out at ten minute intervals. Gravel Ride start times are TBA based on length and difficulty, but normally will start at 9am & 9:30am.

What charity are we supporting this year? We don't fundraise every year, last year we took a break since many folks had made a three-year pledge to Ecusta Trail. This yearwe are raising money for our Helene Recovery charities and have already received $22,000 in early donations! Please consider making a donation to one (or more) of these organizations or to another charity that you support. Please let Hank know when you make a donation so your name can be added to the donor list:

Where is the TdT? The entire schedule is now on the club website. Rides start at different locations, but most rides are in Transylvania County for at least part of the ride. On four days there is an alternate northern start location.

What are the ride options? Ride all 21 stages or select the stages you want to ride. On most days there will be a longer level 1,2, & 3 ride, a median distance 4, 5, & 6 ride, and a level 7 & 8 “no-drop” ride, and some days will have a gravel ride option. Even the “no-drop” ride is not necessarily flat or easy, so pay attention to the ride description!

  • Levels 1,2,3 will be "drop" rides with periodic regrouping
  • Levels 4,5,6 will be "regroup" rides that will regroup as needed. If the group stays together they will not need to re-group as often.
  • Levels 7 & 8 will be "no-drop" rides that regroup often

I can't open the route link, what's up? You must be a BRBC member to view the RWGPS club routes. It's a low fee for a full year, so join! If you are a member and still can't view the route consult our Ride with GPS instructions.

Are there road markings, support, & rest stops? These are a series of BRBC group rides, not an “event”, so there is no SAG, no staffed rest stops, no pavement markers. Expect these rides to be like a regular BRBC group ride.

What are the start times? The start times are on the BRBC Calendar. Typically the Level 1 ride will roll out at 9am and levels 2 through 8 will roll out at ten minute intervals. Gravel Ride start times are TBA based on length and difficulty, but normally will start at 9am & 9:30am.

Do I have to ride with the TdT group? Riders that want to roll solo or with a smaller group on their own (or at a different time) may do so for any of the stages.

I'm not retired, are there any evening rides? Folks that work can ride the routes solo in the evening or get together with friends to ride the stages after work.

How do I get the TdT ride announcements? Ride announcements with routes and details are posted on the BRBC calendar. We'll send out a weekly email but all of the ride details are on the calendar. Be sure to check the calendar the morning of the ride in case there are any last minute announcements.

What if the weather is threatening? We do not plan to cancel rides, so decide for yourself if the conditions are safe for riding. You always have the option of starting at a different time or do the stage on a different day. If the ride leader decides not to ride due to weather they won’t show up & it will be up to you to decide if you want to do the ride on your own at the scheduled time or a later time.

Are there any rest days? Tuesday, July 15th and Monday, July 21st are scheduled rest days.

What if there are a lot of riders? With up to 9 rides at various levels each day the groups should be a bit smaller and you should be able to choose a group that will be going your pace- not too fast, not too slow, but just right. Ride leaders may choose to split up into smaller groups if there are more than 12 riders that show up for a particular ride.

What if I want to go faster than the group? You should be able to select a ride that is the appropriate pace for you to ride with the group. If you get in front of the ride leader you need to know the route and you are no longer part of the group ride- you are on your own.

Where can I get a TdT Jersey and bottoms? Sorry, the TdT store closed on May 4th. If enough folks whine about wanting a jersey we might reopen the TdT store later in July.

What is the schedule? The schedule is on the BRBC Calendar on the club website.
