About this event
Because Saturday's forecast is deteriorating, here's a ride for Friday.
Jackson Park-Flat Rock-Indian Cove route is a moderately hilly 35-mile ride through apple orchards to Flat Rock Village Bakery, then return by a loop past Carl Sandberg's estate and over Jones Gap/Indian Cove (Cave). We climb Howard Gap Loop before the rest stop at the Bakery. Then we'll ride the rolling hills on Little River Rd before tackling the climb up Hebron Rd to Indian Cove. We finish with a long descent on Finley Cove Rd on our way through town back to Jackson Park.
I plan to ride 14 mph avg moving pace (slower uphill, faster downhill), a solid Pace Level 4 for this route. We'll regroup at Flat Rock Bakery and as needed. Always ensure you have the route, can ride a Level 4 pace, are fully self-sufficient to complete the ride on your own, and have the ride leader's cell number if dropped.
Contact the ride leader if you have any questions.
EQUIPMENT: Helmets are mandatory. Have the route on your bike computer, phone, or printed cue sheet. Daytime headlights and rear lights are highly recommended. You should be fully self-sufficient for repair of flat tires or small mechanical issues.
NOTE: All rides leave promptly at the time stated. Give yourself enough time (at least fifteen minutes) to get your bike unloaded and all geared up!
WEATHER: Please remember if the weather looks "iffy" or gets bad before the start date and time, then the ride leaders may not be there and you will be riding on your own. Western NC (and SC) is a very large area and some places could be sunshine and other places bad weather.
