About this event
RIDE NAME: Sky Top Orchard Ride - JAXPK-Mt Olivet-Jones Gap-48
RIDE DESCRIPTION: It's apple season so this ride stops at Sky Top Orchard for your favorite apple treat! The Orchard is an optional stop but I think Sky Top has the best Apple Cider Donuts! And so I will be stopping. https://www.skytoporchard.com/
We'll start at Jackson Park, Hendersonville, NC. Park in the lot closest to the Glover St entrance (but away from the Mountain School - near the garden). We'll ride through apple orchards to Tuxedo (short break at Tuxedo Park), climb Mt Olivet Rd, stop at Sky Top Orchard, descend Pinnacle Mtn Rd, go through Flat Rock, loop around to the west over Indian Cove to return through Hendersonville. 48.9mi/3,920' elev or 80 ft/mi. There are two significant climbs on this route: Mt Olivet (3.5mi/966ft) and Hebron to Jones Gap (3.2mi/592ft).

Shorter Option:
If you want to go to Sky Top Orchard but don't want to do all the distance or climbing, we have a route for you! This route skips the 10-mile loop up to Jones Gap. You still get to climb Mt Olivet, but after eating your donuts you can return to Jackson Park via an 18 mile gently rolling route. I can't be in two places at once, so you won't have a ride leader (unless one volunteers before the ride). Make sure you have the route!

I hope to ride around a 13.5 mph avg moving pace - Level 4. This is a DROP Ride because I will lead from the back and stop at Sky Top Orchard. Always ensure you have the route and are fully self-sufficient to complete the ride on your own and have the ride leader's cell number if dropped.
Ride Level Characteristics from Choosing a BRBC Ride
Registration is optional - so others can see who is riding.
PARKING CONSIDERATIONS: Park near the garden - away from the school.
HYDRATION, NOURISHMENT AND AVAILABILITY OF RESTROOMS: Restrooms and water available at Jackson Park.
EQUIPMENT: Helmets and water bottles are mandatory. Have the route on your bike computer, phone, or printed cue sheet. Front facing headlights and rear blinking lights are highly recommended for this ride and required on the Blue Ridge Parkway unless appropriate reflectors are attached. Your bike must be equipped with the necessary lights or reflectors in accordance with applicable North Carolina and federal law and statutes governing bicycles. You should be fully self-sufficient for repair of flat tires or small mechanical issues.
NOTE: All rides leave promptly at the time stated. Give yourself enough time (at least fifteen minutes) to get your bike unloaded and all geared up!
WEATHER: Please remember if the weather looks "iffy" or gets bad before the start date and time, then the ride leaders may not be there and you will be riding on your own. We will try to send out an email if that happens, but Western NC (and SC) is a very large area and some places could be sunshine and other places bad weather.
