About this event

RIDE NAME
Brevard Balsam Grove 45

RIDE DESCRIPTION:  Start at Silvermont Mansion in Brevard. Ride through Rosman, up US-215 (climb is 2.2 miles with a 4% grade) to Balsam Grove Convenience Store (mile 22) and back down. Return over the "easy side" of Walnut Hollow.   44.7 mi, 3,225' - 72 ft/mi.

I plan to ride around a 14 mph avg moving pace - a slow Level 4.  I'm still recovering so this might be a stretch for me.  So I'll be much slower climbing and hope to make up lost time descending - kidding about the descending. ?? Linda will lead a Level 2 group.

This is a NO DROP ride so we'll focus on staying together as a group.  If you decide to turn around early, let me know (text/phone call) so I don't wait for you at Balsam Grove.  Always ensure you have the route and are fully self-sufficient to complete the ride on your own and have the ride leader's cell number if dropped - or you drop the ride leader.

Ride Level Characteristics can be found here:  Choosing a BRBC Ride

PARKING CONSIDERATIONS:  Plenty of parking and restrooms at Silvermont.

HYDRATION, NOURISHMENT AND AVAILABILITY OF RESTROOMS:  Restrooms at Silvermont.  Convenience store with restroom at Balsam Grove.

EQUIPMENT: Helmets and water bottles are mandatory. Have the route on your bike computer, phone, or printed cue sheet. Front facing headlights and rear blinking lights are highly recommended for this ride and required on the Blue Ridge Parkway unless appropriate reflectors are attached. Your bike must be equipped with the necessary lights or reflectors in accordance with applicable North Carolina and federal law and statutes governing bicycles. You should be fully self-sufficient for repair of flat tires or small mechanical issues.

NOTE: All rides leave promptly at the time stated. Give yourself enough time (at least fifteen minutes) to get your bike unloaded and all geared up!

WEATHER: Please remember if the weather looks "iffy" or gets bad before the start date and time, then the ride leaders may not be there and you will be riding on your own. We will try to send out an email if that happens, but Western NC (and SC) is a very large area and some places could be sunshine and other places bad weather.
