About this event

RIDE LEADER: Shelley Hoogstraten 202-841-1928 slhoogmil@icloud.com
• Be sure to add my phone number if you are carrying a cell phone, in case you have an emergency or get separated from the group.

RIDE DATE AND TIME:  Thursday, May 8 @ 9:00 AM  Right now there is a chance of rain so watch for cancellation.  Hopefully by leaving a bit earlier we can miss it.

RIDE START LOCATION: Groce United Methodist Church, 954 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805 PARK IN THE BACK OF THE LOT NEAR THE PORTOPOTTY (which is usually locked).

RWGPS LINK:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45577086?privacy_code=kYpRZohCZs3jumSTd7pUCsqy2jUmCdF4

RSVP:  so that other riders and the leader know who's coming.

RIDE DESCRIPTION: This is a “C/C-/Level 6” ride with lots of options. There are three different out and backs that can be eliminated to shorten the ride by various amounts.  Pick the ones you like (or hate the least) and do them.  The last (4th) out and back is to the Bee Tree Reservoir so cutting off this one sort of defeats the purpose of doing the Reservoir ride! The ride leader plans to do the entire route. Because there are so many options, I’m calling this a DROP ride because of all the options and the fact that I will likely get dropped but I will look out for those that I can. There is a surprising amount of climbing considering we don’t climb any long, steep hills. There was a considerable amount of whining last time I led this ride (you know who you are!!) but misery loves company so let’s go have some fun.

PARKING CONSIDERATIONS: PARK IN THE BACK OF THE LOT NEAR THE PORTOPOTTY. The portopotty is usually locked so please attend to your needs before you arrive. Respect the property or we will lose the privilege.

HYDRATION, NOURISHMENT AND AVAILABILITY OF RESTROOMS: No dependable facilities at the start. There has been a portopotty at the Reservoir. Please be discreet and respectful if nature calls.  No chances for water or snacks (Owen Park is closed).  Come prepared.

EQUIPMENT: Helmets and water bottles are mandatory. Have the route on your bike computer, phone, or printed cue sheet. Front facing headlights and rear blinking lights are highly recommended for this ride and required on the Blue Ridge Parkway unless appropriate reflectors are attached. Your bike must be equipped with the necessary lights or reflectors in accordance with applicable North Carolina and federal law and statutes governing bicycles. You should be fully self-sufficient for repair of flat tires or small mechanical issues.

NOTE: All rides leave promptly at the time stated. Give yourself enough time (at least fifteen minutes) to get your bike unloaded and all geared up!

WEATHER:  Please remember if the weather looks "iffy" or gets bad before the start date and time, then the ride leaders may not be there and you will be riding on your own. We will try to send out an email if that happens, but Western NC is a very large area and some places could be sunshine and other places bad weather.
