About this event

RIDE NAME
:  ~Ranger Station-Graveyard Fields-Pisgah Inn

RIDE DESCRIPTION: Are you looking for a ride with a little climbing and some great views on the Blue Ridge Parkway?  If so, this is the ride for you!  48 miles with 4,900 feet of elevation (102 feet/mile).

We'll start at the Pisgah Forest Ranger Station & Visitor Center - opens at 9am with restrooms and water.  Ride up Pisgah Hwy/276 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Go south to Graveyard Fields (restrooms). At this point, you've completed about 21 miles of climbing!  Turn around and head north to Pisgah Inn Country Store (restrooms, snacks).  Pisgah Inn will be our main regrouping point at mile 31.  Then turn around and head back down to the Ranger Station.  We'll finish with 12+ miles of descent.  This route is easy to modify for shorter distance/less elevation, just turn around or skip an out-and-back section.

On the Blue Ridge Parkway, front and rear lights are required.  Cyclists are required to ride single file.

I'm targeting 13.5 mph avg moving pace - Level 3.  Note:  I will be much slower on the climbs and faster on the descents, so this average moving pace won't mean much until the ride is over.  This is a DROP Ride - plan to climb and descend at your own pace. We'll regroup at Pisgah Inn, mile 31.  Always ensure you have the route and are fully self-sufficient to complete the ride on your own and have the ride leader's cell number if dropped.

Ride Level Characteristics from Choosing a BRBC Ride

Levels 3 & 4

Rides at these levels can vary significantly in distance, climbing, regrouping policy and the presence of a rest stop. Rides may be either drop or no drop. Level 3 & 4 riders are fit, and are typically experienced cyclists with excellent bike handling skills. Riders may have ridden at a higher level in the past, but they may no longer be able to or be interested in the intensity, pace lines and aggressive climbing of level 1 & 2 rides. There are some e-bikes as riders try to remain with their preferred groups.

Registration is optional - so others can see who is riding.

PARKING CONSIDERATIONS:  Park away from the entrances at the Ranger Station.

EQUIPMENT: Helmets and water bottles are mandatory. Have the route on your bike computer, phone, or printed cue sheet. Front facing headlights and rear blinking lights are required on the Blue Ridge Parkway unless appropriate reflectors are attached. Your bike must be equipped with the necessary lights or reflectors in accordance with applicable North Carolina and federal law and statutes governing bicycles. You should be fully self-sufficient for repair of flat tires or small mechanical issues.

NOTE: All rides leave promptly at the time stated. Give yourself enough time (at least fifteen minutes) to get your bike unloaded and all geared up!

WEATHER: Please remember if the weather looks "iffy" or gets bad before the start date and time, then the ride leaders may not be there and you will be riding on your own. We will try to send out an email if that happens, but Western NC (and SC) is a very large area and some places could be sunshine and other places bad weather.
