About this event

RIDE NAME
Tside-Mt Olivet-40

RIDE DESCRIPTION:   Tuesday's forecast is doesn't look great right now - scattered showers with thunderstorms in the afternoon.  So we'll keep trying until the weather cooperates!   Another attempt next week.

We'll ride out towards Dana, then loop back to East Flat Rock toward Tuxedo Park (restrooms), our rest stop on this ride at about mile 20.  Then we tackle the Mt Olivet climb (caution on the steep descent), before we return to Trailside.  Optional stop at Flat Rock Bakery, mile 30.   Tside-Mt Olivet route is 40 miles with 3,148 ft elevation = 79 ft/mi.

As usual, we'll split into at least 2 groups, depending on the number of riders.  In our new terminology, Dawn will take the Level 4 group targeting 14-15 mph avg Linda will lead the Level 3 group targeting 15-16 mph avg.

This is a "No One Rides Alone" ride although anyone dropped from the Level 3 group can join the Level 4 group.  The goal of this group ride is every ride is in a group - at least 3 riders but no more than 12 riders.  Watch out for one another.

Always ensure you have the route and are fully self-sufficient to complete the ride on your own and have the ride leader's cell number if dropped.  Better yet, let someone in your group know they need to wait for you.

For more details on the new Ride Levels, check out:  Choosing a BRBC Ride

PARKING CONSIDERATIONS:  Park away from the entrances at Trailside.

HYDRATION, NOURISHMENT AND AVAILABILITY OF RESTROOMS:  Restrooms and food available at Ecusta Market/Trailside.

EQUIPMENT: Helmets and water bottles are mandatory. Have the route on your bike computer, phone, or printed cue sheet. Front facing headlights and rear blinking lights are highly recommended for this ride and required on the Blue Ridge Parkway unless appropriate reflectors are attached. Your bike must be equipped with the necessary lights or reflectors in accordance with applicable North Carolina and federal law and statutes governing bicycles. You should be fully self-sufficient for repair of flat tires or small mechanical issues.

NOTE: All rides leave promptly at the time stated. Give yourself enough time (at least fifteen minutes) to get your bike unloaded and all geared up!

WEATHER: Please remember if the weather looks "iffy" or gets bad before the start date and time, then the ride leaders may not be there and you will be riding on your own. We will try to send out an email if that happens, but Western NC (and SC) is a very large area and some places could be sunshine and other places bad weather.
