Hi All,
Last year you helped us by signing onto a letter to promote Bicyclist and Automatic Emergency Braking, as well as side guards on trucks to stop bicyclists and pedestrians from being sucked under a truck in a crash. As a result:
- We now have the Magnus White Act introduced in the House of Representatives to create a car safety standard for AEB,
- A bill on its way to require side underride guards. While a truck underride bill has been introduced before- this is the first time it has included vulnerable road users in the description.
Today I'm coming to you with a much bigger threat.
Last month, Chairman Graves said the next reauthorization bill would not include funding for “murals, train stations, bike paths or walking paths.” This raises some real concerns for us. While he may be talking just about USDOT discretionary grants- like Safe Streets for All, Reconnecting Communities, and BUILD grants- this is not ok.
Join the American Hiking Society, American Trails, the League of American Bicyclists, People for Bikes, Rails to Trails Conservancy and the Safe Routes to School Partnership on this sign on letter to show broad support for federal investments in bicycling and walking investment and policy in the next reauthorization. Our goal is to get signers from all 50 states, including organizations like you, as well as non-bicycling focused partners.
You can help by:
· Sign your organization onto the letter here by December 22, 2025
· Circulating the letter to your partner organizations in your community and asking for their support. Organizations that work on health, school, transit, community, local business districts, etc. would be great signers.
Sorry for any cross-postings and thanks to anyone who has already signed on!
Thanks,
Caron
