I did the Mountains to Coast ride last year. It was a great experience.

The event was very well organized and executed. The routes were excellent with only a couple of sections of road a bit too crowded with vehicular traffic. The stops at the small towns in between the overnights were well spaced and stocked with lots of food and drinks. The overnights were also excellent. I stayed in a tent, going with Summit Cycle Solutions for the setup and breakdown each day. I did not use the meal plan but instead ate in the towns (or at a food truck at camp).

I would do it again (can't this year) but would stay in hotels. I did not sleep well in the tent.

I did create a video of my experience as I didn't find much online about it. If you're interested, here's the link to the video: https://youtu.be/2xpgPPwkR4o?si=p2fo2ITfbufutFrV

Bottom line: highly recommend the events put on by NC Sports (Cycle NC), based on my one M2C experience.

Hi Deaver, My husband and I have done 3 of their MTN events. We atteneded the years it was held in Lake Lure, Marshal and Rutherfordton. We found it well oranized all 3 times. We typically do our own ride Friday morning and then pick up our packets Friday evening and attend any social events. We have typically skipped the group dinner and eaten at a local restaurant. Nothing against the dinners, we just like to support the businesses in the host town or another one near by. All three events we attended had showers available post ride (They are not guarenteed as fire departments may need the portable showers). That said, we have always been able to take showers, hang out in the towns and socialize before returning to Asheville for sleeping. We are considering attending the one in Sylva this year sice we both love visiting that town.

Hey Deaver,

The Cycle NC events are well run, and a ton of fun! The same folks work it every year, and the volunteers are amazing! I volunteered for 2 Mtn weekends and rode last year at Murphy. I have ridden 4 of the Coastal rides, from 3 different home base towns. The October week that goes from the mountains to the coast is a blast, with 7 towns that each host a night. I volunteered as a rest stop captain all the way across NC 2 years and did partial weeks most of the rest since 2019. I camp with the concierge service and eat breakfast and supper with the meal plan. Every town offers unique things, and the routes change each year as well. The “red shirts” get paid, and return each year. The “green shirts” are the volunteers. All know how to work hard if needed, and have a good time. Give me a holler if you want more info.

Deaver, I'm surprised no one has responded before now. I have not done this ride but many of our members have done this and the other rides run by Cycle NC, which does three large rides a year (coastal, mountain and the week long ride across the whole state.) We are lucky it's nearby this year in that if you wanted to , you could do it as a day trip. I thinking about doing that. The only complaints I have ever heard about their rides are about the weather some years!!

In the newsletter there is a notice about this event in August. Has anyone else ridden in it? Any insight? How many participants? Well run?

The Flyer was so much fun, I'd like to do another, but fear I am spoiled after such a well run event.
