Buncombe County Commissioners Meeting to vote on Lennie's Law (Bicycle Safety Zones)

The Origin: Named after 27-year-old Leonard "Lennie" Antonelli and 32-year-old Jacob Hill, who died on July 1, 2025, when a dump truck crossed the centerline on NC-251 and hit a group of cyclists.

The Goal: The proposed legislation creates designated "bicycle safety zones" on high-risk or popular cycling roads, mirroring school or construction zones.

The Rules: It mandates special warning signage and imposes much heavier fines for motorists caught speeding or breaking traffic laws inside these marked zones.

Current Status: Local governments—including Asheville, Woodfin, and Weaverville—have passed unanimous resolutions and proclamations urging the state legislature to pass the bill.

The Buncombe County Commissioners will vote on this resolution:  https://buncombeconc.portal.civicclerk.com/event/3624/files/attachment/10160

Time: 5:00pm
Date: Tuesday, August 18th
Location: 200 College St., 3rd Floor, Room 326 (Commission Chambers/Conference Room), Asheville, NC 28801
